Jifang Sun
Mr. Sun is a Chinese scholar who holds a master’s degree in Musicology from Henan University, China (2020). He started his PhD project in December 2022 at the Institute of Musicology, Humanities Faculty, University of Bern, with funding from the China Scholarship Council, Since July 2023, he has become a member of the Doctoral Program of Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies. Currently, He is working on a PhD research project exploring the interrelationship between opéra-comique, a French operatic genre, and the French legal system at the end of the 18th century. Based on perspectives of archival research, textual interpretation, legal history, Historical Musicology, and Historical Sociology, his project is aimed at interpreting legal discourses in repertories of opéra-comique, reconstructing the completed historiography of legal landscapes for affairs related to the genre from 1762 to 1814, and then examining the reception of the legal messages implied by the genre. Ultimately, his project is hoping to confirm the role that opéra-comique played in the process of the construction of modern French legal systems.
